“When I didn’t understand something, I gathered up the words scattered at my feet, and lined them up into sentences. If that didn’t help, I’d scatter them again, rearrange them in a different order. Repeat that a number of times, and I was able to think about things like most people.” ~ Sumire, from Sputnik Sweetheart
I can’t say that I’ve always known that I’ll be a writer. It’s just that, over the years, I found that I express myself best with words. I like writing enough to do a lot of it for my studies, work, and this website.
To write is to think.
Who am I?
I am Ying Yi, and I hail from Singapore.
Professionally, I’ve been a content marketer since 2016. It’s a job that involves a lot of writing, so I get to do what I enjoy every day and get paid for it. I do a lot of business-to-business (B2B) technology type writing (see some of my works here and here). I like the challenge of taking complex or difficult topics and writing about them in a crisp and creative way!
Personally, I blog here, on my personal website. I write about the things close to my heart: creativity, personal growth, and things that inspire me. Some of my favourite blog posts are:
- Birthday 2017
- A birthday letter to my present self
- The maverick
- How I write
- Five summer days in Fukuoka
What else do I do?
My other love is manga drawing.
I’ve been drawing since I was little. But it was only in 2017 that I decided to be serious about it. Every day, I study human anatomy so that I can create more life-like figures, and practice various drawing techniques. It’s hard, but my love for the craft keeps me going, and seeing how far I’ve come makes everything worth it. Manga drawing has helped me in so many ways, I’d even say that it helped save my life.
One day, I will be as good as the professional manga artists I admire and respect.
I love travelling. I’ve been to about 25 countries so far. Lived in four of them. My best travel memory is walking through a cemetery in Mount Koya, Japan, as melted snow rained softly on me from the foliage above.
Come to think of it, I am at my best when I have the freedom to explore, discover, and create.
Great, where to from here?
